Texas Tech Men's Tennis To Face Arkansas
Siegel to face alma mater Tuesday in Athletic Training Center
LUBBOCK, Texas - In a matchup of two undefeated teams, the Texas Tech men's tennis team will face the University of Arkansas Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Athletic Training Center.
Texas Tech is 1-0 on the season after a 4-3 win over Tyler Junior College, the nation's top-ranked JUCO, on Saturday, Feb. 1. Arkansas is 4-0 with wins over Missouri, Northeastern State and two victories over Northeast Louisiana, all in Fayetteville.
The match will have additional meaning for Red Raider Director of Tennis Tim Siegel. A 1986 graduate and two-time All-America for the Razorbacks, Siegel welcomes the opportunity to play against his alma mater.
"Playing against Arkansas always has a special significance for me as an alum," said Siegel, who has led the Red Raiders to NCAA appearances in two of the past three seasons. "This is an important match for our team. We feel like we have quickly developed a top-20 program and this is the type of match we need to win. Our players are looking forward to playing the first real tough match of the season against a strong regional opponent."
Siegel, 32, won the Southwest Conference singles championship three times while at Arkansas before playing professionally and reaching a top-100 world ranking in doubles. He has compiled a 50-39 record in four years as head coach of the men's tennis team at Texas Tech. This past summer, Siegel was handed-over the reins of the women's team and named Texas Tech's Director of Tennis.
Admission is free to the public in Texas Tech's Athletic Training Center located at the South end of Jones Stadium.
