Texas Tech Men's Tennis Travels West
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team will travel to Santa Barbara, California to participate in the Santa Barbara Invitational Collegiate Tennis Classic Thursday through Sunday.
Texas Tech (5-8 overall, 1-2 Big 12) will face host UC-Santa Barbara (15-2) in the first round at 3 p.m. (central) on Thursday. The Red Raiders will play either 34th-ranked Harvard at 2 p.m. or the University of Pacific at 4 p.m. in the second round on Friday.
"This tournament presents a great challenge for our team," said Director of Tennis Tim Siegel. "We feel like we have made some significant progress in the last week to 10 days. Now we have a chance to show just how much that improvement can pay off. There are some of the top teams in the country at this tournament and I hope we are ready to meet the challenge of competing with them."
Seven of the 16 teams participating in the tournament are ranked in the nation's top 50. No. 2 ranked Boise State is the tournament's top seed, followed by #23 ranked Washington, #29 ranked Nevada-Las Vegas, #30 ranked UCSB, #34 ranked Harvard, #41 ranked Southern Methodist and #45 ranked Colorado.
Eight matches daily will take place at sites throughout Santa Barbara, including the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club, Birnam Wood Country Club, Knowlwood Tennis Club, La Cumbre Country Club, Cathedral Oaks Club, Santa Barbara Tennis Club, Westmont College and UCSB's East and West Courts.
