Texas Tech Tennis Players Finish Clay Court Appearances In Baltimore
BALTIMORE, Md. - Two Texas Tech men's tennis players concluded their Baltimore Clay Court Championship schedules late Wednesday with a second round loss in the doubles competition. Junior Petar Danolic and senior Tylir Jimenez advanced to the second round of doubles competition Tuesday but were eliminated on Wednesday after a hard-fought 6-7 (3), 7-5, 6-2 loss to Marchetti and Marchetti of Virginia Tech.
The Red Raiders next travel to Lafayette, La. and the University of Southwestern Louisiana on October 3-5 for the 21st annual Lee Michaels-ROLEX Tennis Classic. Schools slated to compete include Texas Tech, Arkansas, Arkansas-Little Rock, Boise State, LSU, Minnesota, Northeast Louisiana, Rice, Southern Mississippi, Texas, Texas-Arlington, TCU and host Southwestern Louisiana.
Both student-athletes also competed in the Clay Court singles competition. Danolic advanced to the second round of singles competition with a 6-4, 7-6 (0) victory against Georgia's Hisham Hemeda but was later eliminated after a 6-2, 6-1 second round loss to UNLV's Asaf Tischler. Jiminez was eliminated in the first round after a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Duke's Jordan Wile.
The Clay Court Championship tournament is the first collegiate invitational of the fall tennis season. Danolic (11-11 last season- singles) and Jiminez (17-7 last season-singles) are two of six returning letterwinners on sixth year head coach Tim Siegel's Texas Tech men's squad. The Red Raider men's squad finished 11-14 overall and 4-5 in Big 12 Conference play last season. They earned their third berth to the NCAA tournament over the last four years.

Singles (First Round): Petar Danolic, Texas Tech defeated Hisham Hemeda, Georgia 6-4, 7-6 (0); Jordan Wile, Duke defeated Tylir Jiminez, Texas Tech 6-2, 6-3. Jiminez eliminated from singles competition.
Singles (Second Round): Asaf Tischler, UNLV defeated Petar Danolic, Texas Tech 6-2, 6-1. Danolic eliminated from singles competition.
