Feb. 1, 1997 Texas Tech Opens With WinLUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech men's tennis team defeated Tyler Junior College 6-3 Saturday at Lubbock Country Club in the season-opener for both teams. The Red Raiders won three singles matches and all three doubles matches to defeat the No. 1 junior college team in the nation. "This was a tremendous win for us and I'm proud of our effort," Texas Tech head coach Tim Siegel said. "Tyler JC is deserving of its No. 1 ranking. I think they could beat a lot of teams in the Big 12 Conference." Texas Tech is 1-0 on the season and 0-0 in the Big 12 while Tyler JC is 0-1 and 0-0.
