Texas Tech Men's Tennis Team Wins Emotional Match
Red Raiders record come-from-behind win over 37th-ranked Razorbacks
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team rallied from a 3-2 deficit and converted two crucial three-set matches to knock-off 37th-ranked Arkansas 4-3 in a 5 1/2-hour dual match today in the Athletic Training Center.
Sophomore Petar Danolic, ranked 40th in the nation, overcame a 5-4 deficit in the third set to claim the decisive 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 win that clinched the match for the Red Raiders. A few minutes prior, junior Doug Lacy, playing the number six position, won a key three-set, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 match to tie score a three each.
"What a great college tennis match," said Texas Tech Director of Tennis Tim Siegel, a 1986 graduate of the University of Arkansas and a two-time All-America for the Razorbacks. "To beat a team that is higher ranked than us in the way that we did it was phenomenal. With three of our players suffering from injuries and our doubles practice time being limited, I was proud of the way our guys fought. That was the most hard-fought, intense tennis match I've ever had."
Texas Tech won two of the three doubles matches to put the Raiders up 1-0 going into singles play. Tech freshman Adam Baranowski won a decisive 6-2, 6-3 matchup at the number one position over Daniel Pahlsson before Arkansas won three-straight matches to go up 3-2.
