No. 22 New Mexico Hands Texas Tech First Loss
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Texas Tech men's tennis team lost its first match of the season with a 6-1 loss at 22nd-ranked New Mexico today in Albuquerque, N.M.
The Lobos won the match's first point by winning two of three doubles matches and never looked back. Tech's lone singles win was junior Tylir Jimenez' 3-6, 6-3, 1-2 suspended match win over Jeff Williams.
Texas Tech's Petar Danolic, Ryan Shupe and Thomas Wheat were battling tendinitis. Danolic and Shupe did not play against the Lobos, while Wheat was not at full-strength.
Texas Tech falls to 2-1 on the season, while New Mexico won its first match of the season and improved to 1-3.
Tech is in action next at home against Abilene Christian on Tuesday, Feb. 25, while New Mexico was to face Nebraska immediately following the Tech match.
