Mar. 30, 1997 Men's Tennis Wins Consolation DrawSANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The Texas Tech men's tennis team won the consolation draw of the UC-Santa Barbara Invitational Collegiate Tennis Classic Sunday with a 4-2 win over New Mexico State.The win improved Texas Tech's record to 8-9 overall and gives the Red Raiders a three-match winning streak, since a first-round loss in the tournament to 30th-ranked host UCSB. Texas Tech won two doubles matches and three of six singles matches, all in straight sets, to claim the victory. "This ended-up being a good tournament for our team," said Director of Tennis Tim Siegel. "We needed some wins against some reputable teams to boost our confidence. We didn't win the tournament, but I am happy with our attitude to come back and win three-straight matches." Texas Tech will return to Big 12 action at 54th-ranked Texas A&M on April 4 and at 13th-ranked Texas on April 5. Texas Tech 4, New Mexico State 2
