SENIOR (FALL 2015)
Began senior year with a bang, winning the USTA/ITA National Indoor Doubles Championship with Hugo Dojas … team was ranked No. 3 in the Oracle/ITA poll and finished the fall 13-3 … pair started the fall 3-3 before ripping off 10 consecutive victories at the ITA Texas Regionals and USTA/ITA National Indoor Championship … pair went 2-1 at the Texas A&M Invitational, falling in the third match to Texas A&M’s duo of Shane Vinsant and Arthur Rinderknech … suffered an opening-match defeat at the Saint Francis ITA All-American Championship and went 1-1 in the consolation round … ripped through the ITA Texas Regionals with Soares, winning five consecutive matches to advance to the indoor championship … captured the ITA Texas Regionals title with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Vinsant and Rinderknech … faced a trio of ranked teams at the indoor championship and defeated all of them en route to the title … went 5-0 at the event and took the title with a thrilling three-set triumph against North Carolina’s Brett Clark and Robert Kelly, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (7), ranked No. 18 … duo dropped the first set in the semifinals to New Mexico’s Bart Van Leijsen and Hayden Sabatka before rallying for a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (9) victory to reach the championship match … turned in a strong fall in singles, playing in the high-profile Oracle/ITA Masters and finishing the season with an 8-4 record … played eight of 12 matches in the fall against nationally ranked opponents, going 5-3 … was ranked No. 18 in the Oracle/ITA ledger … opened the fall with a trip to the semifinals of the Oracle/ITA Masters by upsetting No. 2 Ryan Shane of Virginia (6-3, 4-6, 6-2) and No. 17 Austin Smith of Georgia (6-2, 4-6, 7-5) in the first two rounds … suffered a 3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-0 setback to Duke’s Nicolas Alvarez, ranked No. 7, in the semifinals … bounced back from first loss with a 4-0 Texas A&M Invitational, including trio of ranked wins, all in straight sets … lost both matches at the Saint Francis ITA All-American Championship before ending the fall going 2-1 at the ITA Texas Regionals.
Teamed with Hugo Dojas to turn in the best doubles campaigns in program history, placing second at the NCAA Individual Championships and earning All-America honors … with Dojas, reached as high as No. 16 in the Oracle/ITA poll during the regular season before ending at No. 2 … earned All-Big 12 honors in doubles with Dojas and singles accolades for the second straight year … went 14-7 overall with Dojas and 8-5 in dual matches, all at the No. 1 spot … posted a 5-5 mark against nationally ranked foes … finished with a 21-14 singles mark, playing mainly in No. 1 (12-10) and rarely in the No. 2 spot (2-1) … ended 8-12 against nationally ranked opponents and 2-3 in Big 12 action in singles … in doubles, started the spring with victories in the first four decisions … during league play, secured a 7-6 (6) victory against Oklahoma’s No. 8 pair of Axel Alvarez Llamas and Dane Web, leading to TTU’s 4-3 team victory against the No. 1 Sooners … advanced to the doubles Round of 16 in the NCAA Individual Championship with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against the No. 5 team of Gonzales Austin and Rhys Johnson of Vanderbilt … reached the semifinals with 6-2, 6-3 victory against the No. 1 team in the country, Austin Smith and Ben Wagland of Georgia … topped Michigan State's Harry Jadun and John Patrick Mullane in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) to qualify for the title match … lost a three-set thriller in the national title match, falling 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 to Texas’ Lloyd Glasspool and Soren Hess-Olesen … in singles, pieced together a four-match winning streak from February 22 – March 15 … secured one of the Red Raiders’ two points in a 4-2 setback at No. 10 TCU by downing No. 36 Nick Chappell, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) … clinched Texas Tech’s 4-3 win against No. 25 Oklahoma State with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win versus No. 39 Jakob Sude … ended Texas Tech’s 4-2 victory against UC Santa Barbara in the opening round of the NCAA Team Championship with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win versus Tobias Galskov … in the fall, went 6-2 in doubles with Dojas … reached the Round of 16 of the ITA All-American Championship after advancing through the qualifying round … fell 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (6) to the No. 6 team in the country, Columbia’s Ashok Narayana and Max Schnu in the Round of 16 … reached the quarters with a 7-5, 7-6 (2) upset of Georgia Tech’s Carlos Benito and Eduardo Segura, ranked No. 20 … ended the fall with a 2-1 mark at the ITA Texas Regional, advancing to the quarterfinal before falling to TCU’s Cameron Norrie and Trevor Johnson, 8-7 (5) … playing singles, posted a 7-4 fall record … went 1-1 at the ITA All-American Championship before rebounding to go 3-1 at the ITA Texas Regional Championship with a trip to the quarterfinals … came back for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win against SMU’s No. 87 Artus Kazijevs in the Round of 16 to reach the quarters … ended the fall at the Texas A&M Conference Challenge and went 3-1, dropping the first match and taking the next three … in final fall match, scored a 6-1, 6-3 upset of No. 15 Shane Vinsant of Texas A&M.
The Red Raiders’ top player, leading the squad with a 22-12 singles mark and finishing 8-14 in doubles … reached a high ranking of No. 60 in the Oracle/ITA rankings … posted a 14-9 record in singles during dual matches, all in the No. 1 spot … finished 7-10 against nationally ranked foes … in doubles, played with four partners, most frequently with Johann Willems (2-5) and Hugo Dojas (4-6) … went 4-6 in the top spot with Dojas and finished 2-5 in the No. 2 spot of the order … posted a 1-3 mark in doubles in league matches … in singles, began the spring with a 2-2 mark before going on a four match winning streak … earned highest ranked win of the year against No. 49 Nick Chappell of TCU, capturing a 6-4, 6-3 victory … clinched a 5-2 victory in the regular season against No. 24 Oklahoma State with a 6-3, 6-7 (8), 6-3 win against No. 86 Jakob Sude … started the spring doubles season with Willems and finished 2-5 … pair clinched the doubles point against No. 10 Mississippi State with a 6-5 victory against Florian Lakat and Tassilo Schmid in the No. 2 spot … switched to pairing with Dojas in March and went 4-5 … pieced together a three-match winning streak with Dojas in late March, including an 8-5 triumph versus No. 42 Henry Craig and Alex Gasson of Denver … impressed in singles during the fall, going 8-2 in singles and 2-3 in doubles … opened the fall with a 3-1 singles record at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational, advancing to the semifinals … dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to No. 21 Andy Bettles of Boise State in the semifinals … won a pair of matches at the ITA Texas Regional to move to the Round of 16 before being swept by No. 10 Soren Hess-Olesen of Texas … paired with Andre Napolitano in doubles at the same event and went 1-1 … also went 1-1 with Napolitano at the Wyndham Invitational.
Learned on the job as a freshman, finishing 15-8 in singles and 15-10 in doubles, playing all matches in the spring … achieved ranking of No. 122 in the Oracle/ITA ledger at the end of the regular season … experienced action in five of the six singles spots in the order, only not playing in the No. 1 slot … most action came at No. 3 with a 7-4 mark, but also went 3-2 at No. 2, 2-1 at No. 4 and No. 6 and 1-0 at No. 5 … went 1-1 in singles against nationally ranked opponents and 3-2 in league matches … filled all three doubles slots and went 1-4 against Big 12 competition … finished 12-7 at No. 2 doubles, 2-3 at No. 1 and 1-0 at No. 3 … played primarily with Jeff Bryan as the duo went 12-8 in the first and second spots of the order … also went 2-2 with Felipe Soares in the No. 2 spot and won lone match with Evan Nix, at No. 3 … in singles, started the campaign 4-1 … won initial match with a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Prairie View A&M’s Jonathan Dingle … bounced back from a 1-3 spell with seven straight wins … earned first ranked win, 6-2, 6-2, against No. 38 Guillermo Alcorta of No. 12 Oklahoma … in doubles, played first five matches with Dojas (2-2) and Nix before shifting to Bryan … won five of first six matches and eight of first nine with Bryan … captured first Big 12 win with a 9-8 (3) win against Texas’ Ben Chen and Daniel Whitehead.
PRIOR TO TEXAS TECH
Ranked No. 3 in Brazil in the boys 18s … ranked 996th in singles and 841st in doubles on the ATP World Tour Rankings competing as an amateur … had a solid 2011 season competing as an amateur on the ITF Futures Tour in South America … secured wins over two ATP World Tour Top 500 players, Danilo Ferraz and Diego Mattos in October of 2011 … had world ranking in singles drop from 1697 to 996 in 11 tournaments … teamed with Thales Turini to win the doubles title at the ITF Futures Porto Alegre Open De Tenis in October of 2011 in Porto Alegre, Brazil … two weeks earlier, the duo advanced to the finals of the ITF Futures event in Santa Cruz, Bolivia … in singles, went 30-19 in 2011 on the ITF Futures Tour … advanced to the quarterfinals twice and made it to the round of 16 in six of 11 events.
