Marcelo Ferreira was elevated from assistant coach to associated head coach for the Texas Tech men's tennis teamin October, 2012.

"I have always looked at Marcelo as my equal. We have had two head coaches for the past five years," said Siegel. "He has helped our program accomplish so much. He has done an outstanding job in recruiting and in coaching and teaching our players. I feel the time is right to elevate him to associate head coach, because of everything he has done for me, the program and our student-athletes."

Ferreira is in his sixth season as an assistant coach at Texas Tech and has twice been named the ITA Texas Region Assistant Coach of the Year, earning the honor in 2010 and 2012.

"I am so thankful for this opportunity from Coach Siegel and (Director of Athletics) Kirby Hocutt," said Ferreira. "I feel like it is just an extension of their belief in my abilities to be a good all-around coach. This is very motivating for me. I am excited to take on more duties and responsibilities, whatever they may be, to show that I can run this program right beside Coach Siegel."

He was instrumental in the recruitment of Texas Tech's only two All-Americans - Raony Carvalho and Gonzalo Escobar.
