Raony Carvalho and Rafael Garcia won their doubles match against the Longhorns.

Austin, Texas - The No. 17 Texas Longhorns proved too much for the No. 21 Texas Tech Red Raiders winning, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.

"We had a match point to win the doubles point," head coach Tim Siegel said. "Raony (Carvalho) and Vitor (Manzini) were about to close out their matches but Texas was too good today."

Texas got its first point by winning two of the three doubles matches. Tech's Raony Carvalho and Rafael Garcia got Tech's lone win for the day easily beating Soren Hess-Olsen and Alex Hilliard, 8-3, at the No. 1 position. Texas duo, Daniel Whitehead and David Holiner edged out Gonzalo Escobar and Vitor Manzini, 9-8 (4). Tech's Jeff Bryan and Gabriel Wanderley were downed at the No. 3 doubles spot by Sudanwa Sitaram and Jacoby Lewis, 8-6.

Texas' Lloyd Glasspool got the Longhorns their second point of the match by defeating Red Raider Francisco Zambon, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 4 position. Tech's Garcia couldn't hold off Texas' Sitaram losing, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 3 spot. Whitehead clinched the match for the Longhorns beating Escobar, 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 2 position.

The Red Raiders will be back in action against Tulsa on Friday, in Tulsa, Okla. at 5 p.m.
