Red Raiders Take Season Opener Feb. 2, 2001 LUBBOCK, Texas- The Texas Tech men's tennis team defeated Abilene Christian today 7-0 in Lubbock to open the season on a winning note. The Red Raiders now lead the all-time series against the Wildcats 16-1 and 7-0 against ACU under coach Siegel. "I am very pleased with our play today," said head coach Tim Siegel. "ACU is a very good team and gave us a good test. I know the rest of the season is only going to get tougher. Senior Borut Martincevic started the 2001 campaign where he left off last year, with a win over Julien Curutella in the No. 1 position in two-sets 7-5, 6-3. In doubles action Tech fell in the No. 1 position, but rebounded to win the doubles point by winning the other two matches 8-1, 8-4.
