Orlando, Fla. - The Texas Tech men's tennis team defeated Central Florida in Orlando Fla., 5-2, Monday afternoon at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Red Raiders were 0-3 in doubles play, but 4-6 in singles play. Tech improves to 3-1 on the year.

The Red Raiders struggled in doubles play, losing the doubles point to Central Florida as Catalin Bradu and Antonio Sierra defeated Bojan Szumanski and Esat Tanik, 9-8 (5), at the No. 1 position. The duo of Simon Jaeger and Joel Allen beat Tech's Jakob Paulsen and Dinko Halachev at the No. 2 slot, while UCF's Ener Gursoy and Rhett Rosen upset Michael Innerebner and Teddy DeBlasi in the No. 3 spot.

The Raiders were able to pull through in singles play as they walked away with victories in all but the No. 5 position. In a tight match Innerebner was unable to outlast Allen, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4. In the No.1 position Paulsen defeated Bradu, 6-3, 6-2, while Szumanski beat Gursoy, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 2 slot

"I was really proud of our team effort, and I just thought we came out and fought hard every match," head coach Tim Siegel said. "It was a great trip for us and to beat a ranked team on the road means we are on our way."
