LUBBOCK, Texas - In the home opener of the season, the No. 29-ranked Texas Tech men's tennis team edged No. 32 TCU, 5-2, on a windy Saturday afternoon at the McLeod Tennis Center.

With the win, the Red Raiders improve to 3-3 on the season, while the Horned Frogs drop to 2-6 overall.

The match did not begin exactly as the Red Raiders had hoped with the Horned Frogs taking both the No. 1 and 2 doubles positions to earn the doubles point. Tech's Gonzalo Escobar and David Gonzalez was Tech's only duo to mount a victory, taking the No. 3 slot, 9-7.

Tech would tie the match in singles quickly, however, as Raony Carvalho downed Kriegler Brink, 6-3, 6-4, in his debut at the No. 2 position. Minutes later, Sinisa Markovic would put the Red Raiders ahead for good with a 6-2, 6-2, victory over No. 68-ranked Emmanual Brighui in the No. 1 slot.

Tech would get another added boost at the No. 4 position as Escobar would drop Chris Price in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Despite having an opportunity at the match point in the third set, Christian Rojmar could not close the match in the No. 3 slot, dropping the final set in a tiebreaker to lose, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

Milos Kustudija would win the deciding match for the Red Raiders in a third set tiebreaker at the No. 6 position, besting Adrian Simon, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-3). In the day's final match, Michael Breler and Zach Nichols would split the opening two sets, 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), before Breler would close the match, winning the third-set tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-4).

"This was a great team win," Tech head coach Tim Siegel said. "All 10 players contributed to this win, and it was a great victory. I can't say enough about how well we played at the top of our lineup, but to me, the most important thing is how we play tomorrow."
