Men's Tennis Team Captured Invitational Championship With Win Over Wichita State, 4-0

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team captured the championship in the Corpus Christi Invitational this weekend with a clean sweep over Wichita State, 4-0. With this win, the Red Raiders are on a 10 match winning streak and have a record of 10-1 for the overall season and still 3-0 in Big 12 play. In the singles category, the wins came from the spots of No. 2, 5 and 6. Senior Alfonso Perez dominated Leonardo Ramirez in the No. 2 position, 6-2, 6-3. Playing the No. 5 spot, sophomore Michael Innerebner was triumphant over Angelo Manns, 6-2, 6-1. Senior John Walker prevailed over Carlo Contente at the No. 6 slot, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Diederik de Groot at No.1, sophomore Esat Tanik at No. 3 and senior Devin Wakeford at No. 4 did not finish their matches. In doubles, the due of de Groot and Wakeford at the No. 1 spot, defeated Joggan Austin and Marko Despot, 8-1. Playing as the No. 2 doubles, Perez and Tanik conquered Ramirez and Contente, 8-2. Innerebner and sophomore Jonathan John did not finish their match. The Red Raiders will be on the courts again March 15, where they will host Northern Arizona at 1 p.m.
