ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – No. 41 Texas Tech rolled past No. 56 New Mexico, 4-1, at the Linda Estes Tennis Complex on Sunday.
“It was a very good team win for us,” said Red Raider head coach Tim Siegel. “Jolan (Cailleau) and Felipe (Soares) played very well this weekend. Hugo came through and clinched against a really tough player. We are looking forward to returning home and playing our next four matches at the McLeod Tennis Center.”
The Red Raiders won a highly-contested doubles point, as Felipe Soares and Hugo Dojas outlasted James Hignett and Samir Iftikhar, 8-7. This came just after Johann Willems and Carlos DiLaura held off Hayden Sabatka and Andrew Van Der Vyver, 8-6.
The soon became 2-0, as Tech’s Jolan Cailleau cruised past Bryan Cunningham at No. 6, 6-0, 6-3. Willems followed suit, as the freshman dropped Andrew Van Der Vyver, 7-6, 6-2, and suddenly it was 3-0 Texas Tech.
New Mexico got on the board after Rodolfo Jauregui topped Francisco Zambon, 6-4, 6-3, but Red Raider Dojas answered with a 7-6, 7-5 win at No. 2 to secure the team victory.
Texas Tech will now host four straight matches at the McLeod Tennis Center beginning Sunday, when No. 57 Indiana will face the Red Raiders at 1 p.m.
