LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team prevailed over New Mexico State, 6-1. The Red Raiders now hold a record of 13-1 for the season and remain 3-0 in Big 12 play. Head coach, Tim Siegel says that this 13 match-winning streak is a record for the tennis program at this point in the season.

In singles action, there were a lot of tough matches for the teams, many of them resulting in tiebreakers. Playing No. 1 singles, freshman Diederik de Groot defeated Mark Roberts, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5. Sophomore Esat Tanik edged over Danilo Zivanovic at the No. 3 slot, 7-6, 4-6, 10-8. At the No. 4 spot, senior Devin Wakeford downed Luis Avial, 6-3, 6-2. Sophomore Michael Innerebner was triumphant over Dan Even at the No. 5 position, 6-3, 7-6, 7-3. Senior John Walker was able to come out with a victory over Simon Baumgartner at the No. 6 slot, 6-1, 6-2. In the No. 2 spot, senior Alfonso Perez fell to Ben Archer-Clowes, 4-6, 6-4, 7-10.

"This was an absolutely gutsy performance to play six matches in ten days," says head coach Tim Siegel. "I'm not sure what I was thinking when I was scheduling them, and putting New Mexico State on the last day. I am really proud of the boys they came out and played the best match of the year. The guys have been playing really well. I cannot say enough about Michael Innerebner, he was outstanding today."

Texas Tech was able to sweep the doubles matches, winning all three. At the No. 1 spot, de Groot and Wakeford overturned Zivanovic and Even, 8-2. Perez and Tanik were able to overcome Archer-Clowes and Avila at the No. 2 slot, 8-5. The duo of Innerebner and Walker at the No. 3 spot were able to come out with a win against Baumgartner and Roberts, 8-3.

The Red Raiders will be defending their home court and the school record, 13 match-winning streak, again on March 22 against Baylor. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
