Men's Tennis Puts a Halt to the Roadrunners, 4-0

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team improved to 10-7 on the season as it defeated the roadrunners of the University of Texas San Antonio, 4-0, this afternoon at the Lubbock Country Club, in Lubbock, Texas. The Red Raiders drew first blood in the contest, winning two of three matches to earn the doubles point. The #2 duo of Royce Ramey (Richardson, Texas) and Devin Wakeford (Cape Town, South Africa) emerged victorious in the second doubles match, winning 8-5. Ramey defeated UTSA's Fred Darmont in strait sets to take the #1 singles match, 6-3, 6-0. The second seeded Ben Gudzelak (Halifax, England) won a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Rica Almeida of UTSA while Richard Crabtree (Habden Bridge, England) was also a strait set winner in the #3 seed match besting UTSA's Brett Veale, 6-4 6-1. The match was called after Tech won the four points necessary for a victory to accommodate UTSA's travel plans. Tech will host the 10th ranked Texas A&M Aggies on Fri., April 5, at the McLeod Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. The team will then host the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sun., April 7, at 1 p.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center. Fans attending next weekend's matches will receive free pizza and the first 50 fans in attendance will receive a free tee shirt.
