LUBBOCK, Texas - Big 12 Player of the Week Royce Ramey (Richardson, Texas) defeated William Barker of Rice, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, as the Red Raiders defeated the Owls 5-2 at the McLeod Tennis Center this afternoon.

Richard Crabtree (Hebden Bridge, England) and Ben Gudzelak (Halifax, England) took at win at the number one doubles slot, defeating Rice's Matthias Mathaes and Prakash Venkataraman, 9-7. Ramey and partner Devin Wakeford (Cape Town, South Africa) won an 8-4 decision over Fabien Giraud and Vuk Rajevac in the second doubles position.

In singles play, Crabtree took the number three singles match in strait sets from Giraud, 6-2, 6-4. Freshmen Michael Innerebner (Milan, Italy) and David Knaszak (New Braunfels, Texas) both came up winners for the Red Raiders in split sets.

"This was a big win for us, because we beat a team that was ranked higher than us," said head coach Tim Siegel. "This match could have gone either way and it gives us confidence that we can win close matches."

Tech will return to the McLeod Tennis Center for the last time this season on Sunday, April 14, as they host the New Mexico Lobos at noon. Sunday's match will be Senior Day for the team as it honors senior co-captains Royce Ramey and Richard Crabtree who will be playing in their final home matches. Fans attending the match will receive free pizza and the first fifty fans will receive a free t-shirt.
