NORMAN, Okla. – No. 4 Oklahoma held off a strong charge by No. 37 Texas Tech to top the Red Raiders, 7-0, on Sunday at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
“I am proud of our effort and competitiveness today,” said Red Raider head coach Tim Siegel. “I felt we should have won three matches in straight sets. OU has a great team. Felipe (Soares) played extremely well, taking a Top 6 player to three sets.”
“We look forward to this weekend as we return home to face TCU and Texas.”
Oklahoma swept the doubles, but not without a tough fight from Texas Tech. OU’s No. 28 Dane Webb and Andrew Harris edged Felipe Soares and Hugo Dojas, 8-6, at No. 1. Jolan Cailleau and Francisco Zambon fell to Nick Papac and Perrakit Siributwong, 8-3, at No. 3. No. 5 Alcorta gave OU a 2-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 105 Dojas, just before No. 40 Webb defeated Zambon, 6-4, 6-2.
No. 44 Harris clinched the win for Oklahoma with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Hinnisdaels at No. 4, giving the Sooners a 4-0 lead.
No. 6 Alvarez Llamas took all he could handle from No. 115 Soares, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5). Alex Ghilea then outlasted Willems, 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (12-10). Austin Siegel closed out the match for Oklahoma with a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3) win over Cailleau.
