LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 7 Texas used five straight-set wins over No. 27 Texas Tech to take a 5-1 win over the Red Raiders at The Falls Athletic Club on Saturday in the men’s tennis regular season finale for both teams.
“Texas is a good team and deserved the win tonight,” said Red Raider head coach Tim Siegel. “We just seemed a little sluggish after playing Friday night, but that is no excuse.”
Saturday’s match was moved indoors due to a downpour of rain that fell 90 minutes before the match.
The match began with singles after being moved indoors.
Texas swept through the first five matches with straight-set wins. Carlos DiLaura, who was inserted into the lineup at No. 6 after Johann Willems was scratched due to illness, picked up the lone win for Texas Tech.
DiLaura, who was playing singles in his first dual match of the season, handed Clement Homs just his second loss of the spring. DiLaura held on for a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (13-11) win at No. 6.
Texas Tech will now wait for Sunday to find out its seeding in the Big 12 Championships, slated for this week in Fort Worth.
