Men's Tennis Defeats Nebraska|

LINCOLN, Neb. The Texas Tech men's tennis team advanced to the second round of the 1998 Big 12 Conference Men's Tennis Championships Thursday, defeating Nebraska 4-0 at the Cather-Pound Tennis Complex in Lincoln, Neb. The Red Raiders will play Texas on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
Tech improved to a 11-13 overall season record with the win. The squad started the match by claiming the doubles point with wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 slots. The pair of Tylir Jimenez and Doug Lacy dropped the Husker,s Jorge Abos Sanchez and Magnus Grahn 8-5 in No. 2, and Carey Biorkman and Petar Danolic took the No. 3 win.
The Red Raiders needed just three singles victories to win the match. Danolic captured No. 1 singles, winning 6-4, 6-4 over Nebraska,s Dinko Verzi, repeating a victory from the match a day earlier. Ryan Shupe made up for his loss Wednesday, claiming a 7-5, 6-3 decision against Abos Sanchez from the No. 3 slot. The final point came from Biorkman in No. 6 singles as he won 6-1, 6-1. Friday's match vs. the Longhorns will be played at the Cather-Pound Tennis Complex in Lincoln.
