Soares Cruises Into Semifinals In Midland|
Felipe Soares advanced to the semifinals of the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational.

MIDLAND, Texas - Texas Tech's Felipe Soares picked up a pair of wins and advanced to the men's singles semifinals at the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational on Saturday at the Midland Racquet Club.
Soares, who is seeded fourth, topped Boise State's Brian Foley, 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals. The Texas Tech sophomore then won a marathon over Oklahoma State's Brady Bohrnstedt, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, to reach the semifinals.
"Felipe did great today," said assistant coach James Wilson. "He was able to outlast his opponent. You can give a lot of credit to (strength and conditioning coach) Tyson Carter on getting these guys in good shape.
Soares will face second-seeded Andy Bettles of Boise State in the semifinals. All four of the top seeds advanced to the semifinals. Top-seeded Soren Hess-Olesen of Texas will face third-seeded Sebastian Sachs of Oklahoma State in the other semifinal.
Texas Tech's Francisco Zambon upended New Mexico's Mads Hegelund, 6-0, 6-3, to face Sachs in the quarterfinals, but Sachs advanced after a 6-2, 6-4 win.
On the consolation side, Nick Mellott fell to Matthew Kirby of Tulsa, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0.
