HOUSTON – The only thing that really slowed down Texas Tech at the 2013 Wyndham Houston Medical Center Rice Fall Invitational was a tropical rain system that forced the tournament to move indoors Friday to The Downtown Club at The Met.
Felipe Soares advanced to the semifinals of the Flight A bracket with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Srikar Alla of Rice, but Hugo Dojas was not as lucky as he fell to No. 112 Dominik Koepfer of Tulane in a marathon, 7-5, 5-7, 6-2.
Tech’s other Belgian freshman, Jolan Cailleau, handled Rice’s Gustavo Gonzalez, 6-2, 7-5 in Flight C, but teammate Andre Napolitano was not as lucky, as the Brazilian freshman lost to Tulane’s Sebastian Ray, 6-4, 6-3.
In Flight D, Evan Nix added a straight-set win over Takuma Ohashi, 6-4, 6-3, while Red Raider newcomer Carlos Di Laura fell to Rice’s Zack Yablon, 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles, Hinnisdaels and Dojas advance in Flight A, while Di Laura and Zambon advanced in Flight B.
Play will resume at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
