LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's Gonzalo Escobar and Andre Stabile have advanced to the finals of the A doubles draw at the Baylor Intercollegiate after beating the No. 6 team in the country in the semifinals today at the Baylor Tennis Center.

The day started off with the doubles tandem of Escobar and Stabile winning its quarterfinal match over Matt Hogan and Chris Nott (Arkansas), 8-3.

Escobar then went on to win his round of 16 match against No. 34 Marek Michalicka (Wisconsin), 6-3, 6-3, in the A singles main draw. The quarterfinal match put Escobar up against the No. 1 player in the country - Oleksandr Nedovyesov (Oklahoma State). Escobar played a tough match but lost in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

In the A singles consolation draw, Stabile and Raphael Pfister both lost their round of 16 matches. Stabile fell to Piotr Banas (Louisiana-Lafayette), 6-3, 6-0, while Pfister dropped his match to Ionut Beleleu (Oklahoma), 6-4, 6-2.

The day concluded with the doubles semifinals as Escobar and Stabile upset No. 6 Moritz Baumann and Michalicka (Wisconsin), 8-4. Baumann and Michalicka were also the No. 1 seed in the tournament.

"This has been an incredible tournament for Gonzalo," said head coach Tim Siegel. "He has already proven, after one year, that he is one of the best all-around players in the country. We have had great doubles all weekend and Gonzalo had a big win in the round of 16."

The tournament concludes on Sunday with Tech's duo playing No. 25 Maros Horny and Jordan Rux (Baylor) in the finals at 2 p.m.
