WACO, Texas - Texas Tech had an action-packed first day of play at the ITA Texas Regional Championships hosted by Baylor University at the Hurd Tennis Center, as the Red Raiders competed in 17 matches.
"Overall, it was a good first day for us," said Red Raider head coach Tim Siegel. "Hugo (Dojas) had a big win today and (Francisco) Zambon had a good win today. Hinnisdaels advanced to the third round. We did a lot of good things today."
Hugo Dojas led the way with an amazing straight-set upset of fifth seeded and No. 67 Harrison Adams of Texas A&M, 6-0, 6-4, after receiving a first round bye in the event. Adams was the first seeded player to fall in the event.
Also advancing was sophomore Felipe Soares, who is seeded ninth, after he upended TCU's Rodolfo Bustamante, 6-4, 6-0 to advance to the Round of 32.

Zambon battled Chappell to a third set, but came up short, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
Nicholas Melott, Andre Napolitano, Evan Nix and Carlos DiLaura all stayed alive on the consolation side and will continue play on Sunday in the backdraw.
In doubles action, Mellot and Nix topped Tucker Brown and Josip Smoljan of Incarnate Word, 8-4 in the Round of 64, giving Texas Tech four teams in the Round of 32. Mellot and Nix then ran into second seeded and No. 12 Harrison Adams and Shane Vinsant of Texas A&M, who topped the Red Raider duo, 8-2.
Napolitano and Soares survived Frenesco Migliano and Stefan Williams of Texas Arlington, 8-6, while Dojas and Hinnisdaels advanced with an 8-6 win over Diogo Casa and Yannick Yunger of UTSA, giving Texas Tech two teams in the Round of 16.
