Red Raiders Close Play At ITA Texas Regionals|
Freshman Nicholas Melott advanced to the consolation quarterfinals at the ITA Texas Regionals.

WACO, Texas – After 34 matches over two days, Texas Tech concluded play at the ITA Texas Regional Championships hosted by Baylor University at the Hurd Tennis Center on Sunday.
In the main draw, Felipe Soares and Hugo Dojas each advanced to the Round of 15 with impressive wins. Soares topped Incarnate Word’s Tucker Brown, 6-4, 6-3, while Dojas dropped Diogo Casa of UTSA, 6-4, 6-2. Maxime Hinisdaels came up short against No. 101 Lloyd Glasspool of Texas, 6-4, 6-0.
Soares then fell to top seeded and No. 10 Soren Hess-Olesen of Texas, 6-0, 6-0, while Dojas lost a marathon of Texas’ Nick Nauman, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 in the Round of 16.
Freshman Nicholas Melott had the best run in the backdraw, as the San Angelo native topped Abilene Christian’s Jason Proctor in the second round and Rice’s Leif Berger in the third round to advance to the consolation quarterfinals. Melott had to withdraw due to injury.
In doubles, Dojas and HInnisdaels upset the fifth seeded tandem of Nate Lammons and Alex Sanders of SMU, 8-4, to advance to the quarterfinals. But the Texas Tech duo hit a roadblock when they lost a hard-fought battle to George Goldhoff and Jacoby Lewis of Texas, 8-5.
The Red Raiders return to action Friday at the Texas Fall Invitational in Austin.
