CORAL GALES, Fla. – No. 22 Texas Tech may have shown it is primed for the spring season with its solid showing after the first two days at the Gardnar Mulloy Miami Invitational.

On the first day of the event, Texas Tech won nine of 11 events in the split squad format, while capturing eight of 12 wins on day two.

“We are competing well against some very good teams,” said Texas Tech head coach Tim Siegel. “We have put together two very good days of play back to back, but the real test comes tomorrow when we face Illinois’ singles and A&M’s doubles.”

The field in this event features No. 11 Texas A&M, No. 17 Illinois, No. 22 Texas Tech and No. 31 Miami.

“I especially like how Francisco Zambon, our freshman is playing in his first event,” added Siegel. “He has gone 2-0 in singles against some solid players. He is a great competitor.”

Texas Tech returns to action on Saturday at the final day of the Gardnar Mulloy Miami Invitational.
