LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team opens spring play this week as it travels to Las Vegas for two matches against ranked teams.

The No. 39 Red Raiders play No. 73 UNLV on Fri., Jan. 22, at 4 p.m. CST, and then take on No. 42 San Diego State on Sat., Jan. 23, at 4 p.m. CST.

Tech welcomes two new players this spring with the addition of freshman Vitor Manzini and sophomore transfer David Pace. Pace played his freshman year at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Red Raiders now have an 11-man roster to start the spring season. Tech boasts the youngest team in the country with 10 of its 11 players being freshmen (six) and sophomores (four). Its lone upperclassman, junior David Gonzalez, will miss the first four weeks of competition after suffering a dislocated elbow.

The Red Raiders enter the season with two singles players ranked - No. 25 Raony Carvalho and No. 40 Gonzalo Escobar, while two doubles teams are also ranked - No. 19 Carvalho and Rafael Garcia, and No. 35 Escobar and Andre Stabile.
