LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team begins spring play this week when they travel to Las Vegas for matches on Friday and Saturday against two nationally ranked teams.

Coach Tim Siegel's squad enters the spring season ranked No. 15 with Gonzalo Escobar opening his junior season ranked No. 20 in singles and No. 39 in doubles with teammate Rafael Garcia.

Texas Tech opens play on Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex against the No. 66 UNLV Rebels in a 2 p.m. (CT) match. On Saturday, Texas Tech takes on the No. 55 UC Irvine Anteaters at the tennis complex in a 2 p.m. (CT) match. In the latest ITA rankings, Chris Kearney of the Anteaters is listed No. 55 in singles.

Next weekend, the Red Raiders, one of only 15 national hosts, welcome LSU, Auburn, and California to the McLeod Tennis Center for the 2011 ITA Division 1 Kick-Off Weekend. The 15 schools that win both of their matches at these events will be invited to play in the Feb. 18-21 ITA National Team Indoor Championship hosted by the University of Washington.
