Crucial stretch ahead for Red Raiders.
Feb. 5, 1998
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team will play three home matches this weekend against three different teams- West Texas A&M, Abilene Christian and New Mexico State. The Red Raiders will play two matches on Saturday in the ATC against West Texas A&M (9 a.m.) and Abilene Christian (2 p.m.). Sunday, Texas Tech will compete against New Mexico State at 12:00 noon. All matches will be played in Texas Tech's Athletic Training Center (ATC).
The Red Raiders enter the three contests with an 0-1 record after losing to New Mexico 6-3 on January 31.
"This weekend is the start of a very, very crucial six days for us," Texas Tech Director of Tennis Tim Siegel said. "It's very, very important for us. The big thing right now is our doubles teams because I think that's our weakness right now. Without Borut (Martincevic) and Steve (Wood), we're shorthanded in doubles and we need to find that consistency. I thought we played a hard fought match against New Mexico. I'm proud of the way we competed."
Texas Tech will hit the road next week for matches against Siegel's alma mater Arkansas (Tuesday, Feb. 10) and Arkansas-Little Rock (Wednesday, Feb. 11).
