MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Texas Tech has the opportunity to prove its mettle, as the Red Raiders begin play in the prestigious Blue Gray National Tennis Classic at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center.
The Red Raiders are returning to the event they won in 2010 and have twice finished as runner-up, including last season when Texas Tech fell 4-3 to Boise State in the finals.
Texas Tech (4-3) opens play at 4 p.m. against No. 28 Auburn (9-2). This is the third meeting all-time between the two squads. The Red Raiders topped the Tigers in 2008, while Auburn won the rematch in 2011. Both meetings were at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic.
The Red Raiders are led by Felipe Soares (13-4) and No. 101 Hugo Dojas (9-7), who secure the top two spots in the lineup. Maxime Hinnisdaels (7-7), Francisco Zambon and Johann Willems (0-5) secure the middle of the lineup, while Jolan Cailleau (9-4) has solidified the sixth position.
In doubles, Dojas and Hinnisdaels anchor the top spot with a 12-5 record, while Soares and Willems (2-5) have secured the second spot in the rotation. No. 3 doubles is locked down by Zambon and Carlos DiLaura, who are 5-3 on the season.
The Red Raider will either face No. 11 Mississippi State or No. 37 VCU on Saturday.
