Men's Tennis Team Prepares For Final Match of Season Against Oklahoma State
April 10, 2003 LUBBOCK, Texas - For three seniors, their home town finale for their Texas Tech tennis career ends April 12 against Oklahoma State. This is the last game of the season for the Red Raiders, and will be the last home match for seniors Alfonso Perez, Devin Wakeford and John Walker. The men's tennis team is currently ranked No. 54 in the nation, as they are 13-6 for the overall season and 3-3 in Big 12 play. After this weekend, the Red Raiders will travel to Kansas City, Mo. to play in the Big 12 Tournament set for April 24-27. If the Red Raiders are victorious this weekend, they will finish 4th in conference, if not, they will finish 5th. "Oklahoma State is one of the hottest teams in the country right now, defeating Texas A&M and Rice," says head coach Tim Siegel. "This is our final match for three seniors, unfortunately we are having to play with out two of our players (Diederik de Groot and Wakeford), but we are going to play hard just like we have all year." Oklahoma State is in the rankings, setting at No. 36. They are 9-3 for the season and 3-1 for Big 12 play. They face Oklahoma April 9 before heading to Lubbock.
The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. April 12 at the McLeod Tennis Center. There will be free pizza for everyone and free shirts for the first 50 fans.
