Four Red Raiders Selected To Academic All-Big 12 Team

Vitor Manzini was named Academic All-Big 12 for the third straight season.

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raiders landed four players on the Academic All-Big 12 men’s tennis first team on Tuesday.

Leading the selections for the Red Raiders are seniors Vitor Manzini, Raphael Pfister and Gabriel Wanderley and sophomore Francisco Zambon. Manzini is making his third straight appearance in the Academic All-Big 12 squad, while Pfister and Wanderley are each making their second appearance. This is Zambon’s first selection.

The Red Raiders have now had 13 players selected to the Academic All-Big 12 team over the past three seasons. Since the formation of the Big 12 in 1996, Texas Tech has now had 50 Academic All-Big 12 selections for the Red Raider tennis program under head coach Tim Siegel.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

Texas Tech will begin play at the 2013 Big 12 Championships on Friday at 3 p.m. in Norman, Okla.
