LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team defeated Tyler Junior College 6-1 today at the recreation center courts on the Texas Tech campus. With the win, Texas Tech's overall record improves to 15-8 for 1999. The marks sets a new record for the most victories ever for a Red Raider team under Director of Tennis Tim Siegel.

The match opened with Texas Tech capturing the doubles points with wins by the No. 2 team of Jevgenij Cariov and Adam Baranowski and No. 3 tandem of Borut Martincevic and Petar Danolic. The team continued its domination in singles play taking five of the six matches. No. 1 Borut Martincevic defeated Marion Bagdhati 6-2, 6-2 to improves his record to 13-9 for the season. The Red Raiders' lone loss came at the No. 2 spot where Ryan Shupe, who is suffering from a hand injury, fell to Jitte Singh 6-1, 6-0.

Next up for the team is the Big 12 tournament which runs from April 29 - May 2 in College Station, Texas. The Red Raiders will face Nebraska in a first round match up.

"I am very excited about what this team can accomplish in the Big 12 tournament," Siegel said. "Everyone is playing well right now. I think we match up well against Nebraska. It will be a great match."
