LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech tennis teams look to extend their seasons this week in the Big 12 Championships in Kansas City, Mo. The 11th seeded women look for a fresh start in the tournament after finishing a 3-17 season on Thursday, April 27 at 2:30 p.m. against the sixth seed Cornhuskers. The men enter the tournament seeded sixth and take on the third seed Texas Longhorns on Friday, April 28 at 1:30 p.m.

The Red Raiders women's tennis team looks for continued success against Nebraska in the Big 12 Championships. Tech defeated the Cornhuskers in 1998 by a 5-4 score, earning them their only Big 12 postseason victory. These two teams met earlier in the year with Nebraska whipping Tech 8-1 in Lincoln. The victor of the match will battle the No. 3 seed Texas A&M. The Aggies and the Red Raiders met once this year with A&M handing Tech their 15th loss of the season.

Texas Tech men's squad has hopes of earning a bid into the NCAA Tournament. Tech has made it to the NCAA Tournament the past four seasons. Holding the squad back would be their 9-11 record, the fewest wins in the Coach Tim Siegel era.

The Red Raiders face a tough Longhorns team, one they have had trouble against. Tech faced Texas once this year, falling 7-0. These two teams met in the Big 12 Championships a year ago in the second round with Texas knocking the Red Raiders out of the tournament by defeating them 4-1. The winner of the match continues on Saturday to take on the victor of the Oklahoma, Texas A&M match.
