LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders will enter the 2014 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships ranked No. 41, according to the Intercollegiate Top 75 released on Thursday.
The Red Raiders (13-10), who feature the youngest lineup in the ITA Top 75, will face No. 17 California (15-7) in the first round of the NCAA Championships on Saturday, May 10 at 9 a.m. at the Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station. The winner will face the winner of No. 10 Texas A&M and Alcorn State (9-8).
The No. 41 ranking is the highest ranking for Texas Tech since entering the 1998 NCAA Championships at No. 55. The Red Raiders are making their 13th overall appearance in the men's tennis championship.
Individually, sophomores Felipe Soares and Hugo Dojas earned ITA Top 125 singles rankings. Soares (22-10) is ranked No. 60 and has been named the second alternate for the NCAA Singles Championships, while Dojas (19-12) is ranked No. 100.
In doubles, Soares and Dojas are ranked No. 82 as a tandem, while Dojas and freshman Maxime Hinnisdaels are ranked No. 76.
