LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech sophomore Raony Carvalho was named a 2010 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I All-American, which was announced today by the ITA.

Carvalho is Texas Tech's first ITA All-American.

Carvalho finished the season ranked 20th in the country in singles with a dual record of 19-6. He wrapped up the 2009-10 year with an overall record of 26-11. His 26 wins are tied for second on Tech's single-season victories list. Carvalho also posted 26 wins during his freshman campaign. In his two years, he has compiled a singles record of 52-25. His 52 career wins ranks 10th all-time on Tech career victories list.

Carvalho and sophomore Rafael Garcia concluded the year ranked 23rd in doubles, while sophomore Gonzalo Escobar was ranked 39th in singles. Escobar and freshman Andre Stabile were ranked 89th in doubles as well.

To earn ITA All-America honors, a player must meet any of the following criteria - top 16 seed in the NCAA Singles Championships, or reach the round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championships, or finish in the top 20 of the final ITA rankings.
