LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head men's tennis coach Tim Siegel has announced the 2003-04 schedule for the Red Raiders. Tech will compete in six tournaments in the fall, while opening its spring season against Lamar and Abilene Christian on Feb. 1 in Lubbock.

In the fall, the Red Raiders will host the Red Raider Open (Sept. 12-14) and then travel to New Mexico State (Sept. 19-21). Tech will compete in the Baylor Tournament Sept. 26-28 before hosting the USTA-Futures on Oct. 10-12 at the McLeod Tennis Center. The last three tournaments in the fall will be the Midland Invitational (Oct. 17-19), the Texas Fall Tournament (Oct. 17-19) and the ITA Omni Hotels Regional Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas (Oct. 24-26).

"We will be competing in some of the best tournaments in the country, which will prepare us for a very tough schedule in the spring," said Siegel. "It will also help us determine a line-up for the spring as we add several new student-athletes to our roster."

The Red Raiders will host 12 matches in the spring and take the road for 10 matches. After hosting Lamar and ACU on Feb. 1, Tech will travel to Central Florida (Feb. 6) and Florida State (Feb. 8). The Red Raiders return home for three matches against Texas-Arlington (Feb. 22), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Feb. 27) and New Mexico State (Feb. 29). Tech will look to defend its title at the H.E.B. Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas, March 5-7 and then compete at the Rice Invitational March 12-14. Next up will be three home matches with Louisiana-Lafayette (March 19), New Mexico (March 21) and TCU (March 22).

The Red Raiders will open Big 12 play at Baylor March 27. Tech will host four-straight conference match-ups with Texas (April 3), Nebraska (April 4), Texas A&M (April 9) and Colorado (April 11). On April 17, Tech will travel to Oklahoma State and then take on the Sooners of Oklahoma on April 18 in Norman, Okla. The Big 12 Conference Tournament will be held April 29-May 2 in Norman, Okla.

"We have a tough non-conference schedule to go along with our usual challenging Big 12 schedule," said Siegel. "We are playing at least 15 teams that finished 2003 ranked in the top 75 in the country. In the Big 12 alone, four teams advanced to the final 16 in the NCAA Tournament. The strength of our schedule will help us achieve several of our goals, including making it back to the NCAA Tournament."
