LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 21 Texas Tech added premium depth to its roster on Friday with the addition of Francisco Zambon, who will join the Red Raider tennis squad in January, announced head coach Tim Siegel.

“We are extremely excited with the addition of Francisco Zambon to our team,” said Siegel. “He is coming in as a very important piece to our singles and doubles lineup.  Francisco is a hard worker with a lot of talent and experience.”

Zambon is currently ranked seventh in Brazil and 131st in the world by the International Tennis Federation. He has key wins over current world No. 2 Hugo Dellien and No. 24 Matias Sborowitz.

“I am extremely excited with this opportunity,” said Zambon. “It will be an honor to represent such a well respected school. I would like to thank coach Marcelo Ferreira for his attention recruiting me and also for the support I received from all the guys on the team and coach Tim Siegel. I am looking forward to being part of the Red Raider family.”

A native of Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Zambon has reached the round of 16 in nine of his last 14 singles tournaments. He has also reached the finals in doubles three times in the last year in international competition.

The Red Raiders open the fall season on Sept. 16 at the Racquet Club of Midland Invitational in Midland.
