LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raider men's tennis team announced its 2012-13 schedule today. The slate features five fall events and 24 regular season spring matches, including a possible 14 opponents that appeared in the 2012 NCAA Championships.

“I think we have set ourselves up with a balanced schedule,” said Red Raider head coach Tim Siegel. “We are looking forward to getting the season started.”

Texas Tech returns five letterwinners from last season’s squad that finished second in the Big 12 and No. 23 in the nation.

Texas Tech will open the season at the Midland Raquet Club Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland this weekend. Each year, this event features the nation's top collegiate talent from coast to coast.

The fall schedule also includes the Rice Fall Invitational in Houston, the ITA All-American in Tulsa, Okla. And the ITA Texas Regional Championships in Fort Worth. Tech will close out the fall campaign at the Texas Fall Invitational in Austin.

The Red Raiders will open the spring season on Jan. 16 with Texas-Pan American before heading to Houston to face No. 56 Rice and No. 11 Mississippi State.

Texas Tech then travels to Palo Alto, Calif., for the ITA Kickoff Weekend, an ITA National Team Indoor Championship qualifier. The Red Raiders will face No. 26 San Diego in the first round and either No. 30 Texas A&M or No. 9 Stanford in the second round. The winner advances to the ITA National Indoor Championships in Seattle, Wash., on Feb. 15.

The Red Raiders return home for a doubleheader on Feb. 9 when they take on Wichita State and Lamar.

Texas Tech will then travel to Louisiana for a pair of matches with No. 25 LSU and Tulane, before returning to Lubbock to host No. 67 Miami and No. 61 New Mexico.

On March 8, the Red Raiders head to Denver to face No. 57 Denver and Arizona before heading to the prestigious Blue Gray National Tennis Classic. The Blue Gray features a field of No. 29 Notre Dame, No. 38 Boise State, No. 43 Columbia, No. 70 Cornell, No. 73 Nebraska, as well as Troy and Williams & Mary.

The Red Raiders close out the non-conference portion of the schedule against three straight 2012 NCAA participants in No. 37 Fresno State, No. 34 Louisville and No. 17 Tulsa.

In Big 12 Conference action, Texas Tech will host No. 18 Baylor on Apr. 7, Oklahoma State on Apr. 12 and hold Senior Night against No. 10 Oklahoma on Apr. 14.
