Vitor Manzini will pace the Red Raiders at the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational.

MIDLAND, Texas – The No. 23 Texas Tech Red Raiders will begin the 2012-13 tennis season at the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational this weekend.

Representing the Red Raiders in the season-opening event are seniors Vitor Manzini, Raphael Pfister, Gabriel Wanderley and sophomore Francisco Zambon.

This year’s field at the prestigious fall event includes Abilene Christian, Arkansas, Baylor, Davidson, Nebraska, Penn State, Rice, SMU, Stephen F. Austin, Texas, Texas-Arlington, Texas A&M, TCU, Texas State, Tulsa, Tyler Junior College and Wichita State.

Manzini is seeded second overall in singles in the event. Manzini and Zambon have secured first round byes in the event. Pfister will take on Arkansas’ Pete Thompson, while Wanderley will face ACU’s Borja Cortes in the first round.

In doubles action, Manzini and Wanderley received a first round bye, while Zambon and Pfister will face Rice’s tandem of Peter Frank and Leif Berger.
