LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team made a clean sweep Sunday at the Red Raider Open at the Lakeridge Country Club. Borut Martincevic (Maribor, Slovenia) defeated unattached player Shawn Estes in three sets 1-6, 6-1, 7-6, to claim the singles championship. It was Martincevic's first tournament championship as a Red Raider. Martincevic, who was ineligible last season, is slated to be the No. 1 men's player for Texas Tech this year.

Martincevic advanced to the finals after Red Raider teammate Ryan Shupe (Greensboro, N.C.) was unable to play his semi-final match due to a back injury suffered in his quarterfinal victory on Saturday. Estes advanced to the finals by defeating Patricio Espinosa of West Texas A&M in straight sets 6-2, 7-6.

Due to Shupe's injury, he was unable to team with Martincevic in the doubles championships. Therefore the team of Texas Tech's Dustin Hawk (Clyde, Texas) and unattached player Thomas Wheat were declared champions by default.
