Red Raiders Head to H.E.B. Invite

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders will play in their first collegiate tournament of the 2007-2008 season as they compete at the seventh annual H.E.B. Invitational in Waco, Texas. Hosted by the Baylor Bears, play is set to begin on Sept. 21 at the Baylor Tennis Center.
This year's Invite consists of 21 schools with over 120 student-athletes set to compete. Teams participating include Baylor, Boise State, Cal Baptist, Kentucky, UL-Lafayette, Lamar, Laredo CC, Louisville, Mississippi, New Mexico State, Oklahoma, San Diego, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-CC, UT-Arlington, UT-San Antonio, Texas Tech, Wichita State and Wisconsin.
The tournament will consist of two 64-player singles draws, green and gold, and a 32-team draw in Green doubles and 16-team gold doubles draw. The field includes 24 players currently ranked among the FILA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association's national rankings. Six players participating are ranked in the top 50, including No. 7 Erling Tveit (Ole Miss), No. 18 Robbye Poole (Ole Miss), No. 23 Dimitar Kutrovsky (Texas), No. 34 Jerry Makowski (Texas A&M), No. 37 Conor Pollock (Texas A&M), and No. 49 Moritz Baumann (Wisconsin).
Tech will have a full roster in both the singles and doubles draws competing in the tournament, with the exception of senior No. 22 Bojan Szumanski who is scheduled to play in the second round of the Lubbock Challenger tonight at 6:30. Tech's No. 93 junior Sinisa Markovic will lead the team in singles, with teammates Michael Breler, Christian Rojmar and Milos Kustudija also competing. Making their debut as Red Raiders will be junior-transfer Illya Babincuic and freshmen Joe Hattrup and Jeremy Reed.
