Vitor Manzini Advances to Consolation Semifinals at HEB

LUBBOCK, TX - The Red Raiders won three of their six matches on Saturday as sophomore Vitor Manzini from Sao Paulo, Brazil, won his two consolation singles matches and teamed with Raony Carvalho to win their opening doubles match on Saturday morning at the Baylor Tennis Center.
In consolation singles play, Manzini defeated Maryland's Jesse Kiuru, 6-2, 6-4, to advance to the quarterfinals where he met Idaho's Jose Bendeck. Manzini's 6-4, 6-2, win over Bendeck put the Red Raider in the consolation semifinals against Maryland's Sergio Wyss. Their match will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.
No. 4 seed Manzini and Carvalho won their doubles quarterfinal match against UTPA's Beau Bernstein and Ashwin Vijayragavan, 9-8 (1), to advance to the to the semifinals of Doubles A. The Red Raider duo lost in the semifinals to Baylor's No. 6 seed Roberto Maytin and John Peers, 9-7.
After winning two singles matches on Friday, Rafael Garcia lost his round of 16 match to Rice's Peter Frank, 7-5, 6-4.
The final day of HEB competition begins Sunday at 9:00 a.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center.
