TULSA, Okla. - Jevgenij Cariov and Patricio Espinosa sent the Red Raiders men's tennis team out on a winning note at the University of Tulsa Hurricane Invitational Sunday afternoon, winning their flight "A" matches against opponents from Southern Methodist University as Tech took two out of the three matches in the flight.

Playing without their top singles player, Borut Martincevic, the Tech team upped its efforts to end the three day tournament on a winning note. Cariov defeated Alexis Rudzinski in three sets, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 and Espinosa downed Ryan Mauck 2-6, 7-6(9-7), 6-0. In the other flight "A" match, Gerardo Mulas defeated Tech's Ryan Shupe 6-1, 6-2. In flight "B" Marino Bagdati fell to SMU's Keith Orie in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

The Tech team did not play any doubles matches today but did take two out of their three matches against the University of Tulsa on Friday. The No. 1 doubles combo of Martincevic and Shupe defeated Tulsa's Steve Timperley and Dane McGregor 8-6. Bagdati and Espinosa beat Shri Sudhaker and Sean Monk 8-6, and Cariov and Jeremy Earl fell to Tulsa's Pawel Sabastyanski and Juan Bertoldi 8-6.

The men will be back in action next weekend as they participate at the Intercollegiate Tennis Assocation's All-American Tournament in Austin, Texas.
