AUSTIN, Texas - Marino Baghdati advanced to the third round of prequalifying at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Tournament in Austin at the Pennick-Allison Tennis Center on the University of Texas campus but couldn't advance to the main draw. Baghdati lost his third round match to Chris Sands of UCLA in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

Baghdati made an impressive run through the first two rounds of prequalifying. He defeated Ryan Tomlinson of Western Michigan 7-5, 6-7, 7-6(1) in his first match. In his second round match Baghdati battled past Bart Cordenmeiser of Marquette in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

In other pre-qualifying matches for Tech, Patricio Espinosa won his first round match against Patrick Boza of Old Dominion (7-6 (0), 6-7(0), 6-4) before losing to his second round opponent, Chase Exon of Pepperdine, 6-7(0), 7-5, 6-1. Ckay Estes lost in the first round to Takeshi Itoh of New Mexico in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Jevgenij Cariov fell in straight sets to Robert Kowalcyzk of California, 7-5, 6-2 and Jeremy Earl lost to Wisconsin's Danny Westerman, 6-0, 6-2.

In doubles play the combination of Jevgenij Cariov and Jeremy Earl just missed the cut for the main draw. The pair advanced to the third round but fell to Chris Chung and Chris Ma of UC-Irvine 8-3. Cariov and Earl defeated Keith From and Jarin Skube of Texas A&M in a first round match and Brad McFalane and Ron Nano of Michigan 8-3 in the second round.

The ITA All-American Tournament will reconvene on Thursday, October 14 and run through Saturday, October 18.
