Tory Stephens

Director of Strength & Conditioning and Nutrition

Alma Mater:
Texas Tech, 1998

Tory Stephens was appointed Director of the Strength and Conditioning program by Athletics Director Kirby Hocutt in the fall of 2011. Stephens, who began his career with Tech while he was an undergraduate student, spent six years as Associate Head Strength Coach and Director of Nutrition and Supplementation prior to that appointment by Hocutt.

Stephens is Sports Performance Nutrition (SPN) certified and received his Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coach certification (SCCC) in the organization's inaugural year of 2001. In May of 2010, he was awarded the prestigious title of Master Strength & Conditioning Coach by the CSCCa, which is the highest honor a strength and conditioning coach can receive. In Texas Tech's 2011 TechSpy Awards, Stephens received the athletic department's administrator of the year award, which is voted by student-athletes.

Along with his Director duties, Coach Stephens is the strength and conditioning coach for the baseball, women's basketball, and softball teams at Tech and oversees the approval and distribution of NCAA compliant nutritional supplements for all student-athletes.

Stephens received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise and Sports Science from Texas Tech in 1998. He was a letterman in football, baseball and track & field during an outstanding prep career at Sweetwater High School in Texas. As a football player he was chosen to the all-west Texas, all-south plains, and all-state Football teams. He was also a 3-time all-district selection as catcher in baseball.

Stephens and his wife, Trisha, are the proud parents of two sons, Trey and Trevor. In his spare time, he enjoys coaching his son's baseball and football teams, hunting and fishing and, of course, working out. During summers, Tory also enjoys directing Texas Tech's multi-directional speed, agility and strength camp for all youths, ages 7-18.
