Lady Raiders Sign McGruder
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's basketball team signed Kyna McGruder of Howard College to a national letter of intent today
The 5-9 guard from Howard College, played high school basketball at Sundown. While at Howard, she was named to the 1995 National Junior College Athletic Association Region V All-Tournament team. She repeated that honor this season, along with being named the Western Junior College Athletic Conference MVP and NJCAA first team all-American.
This season, McGruder averaged 18.1 points per game, while shooting 46.3 percent from three point range. She grabbed 5.7 rebounds and dished out 3.6 assists. She was the WJCAC's leading scorer and most prolific three point shooter. She was third in the Conference in assists and fourth in steals with 2.9 per game.
The nationaly ranked Lady Hawks finished the season with a 28-5 record.
"I am pleased to add Kyna to our program. I think she is a terrific player and I am impressed with how she led her team at Howard. She brings some really special attributes to our team. I am excited about the chance to coach her," Texas Tech Head Coach Marsha Sharp said.
McGruder joins early signess, all-American Angie Braziel from South Plains College and all-State first team selection Katrisa O'Neal of Plainview, in Tech's recruiting class.
