Texas Tech Rising Sophomore to Participate in USA Basketball Trials
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech sophomore Keitha Dickerson has been selected as one of the 25 top junior players in the United States that will participate in the June 8-10 Women's Junior World Championship Qualifying Team Trials, USA Basketball announced.
Held to select the 12 members of the 1997 Women's Junior World Championship Team, the three-day trials will consist of six pracatice sessions at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Team members will be announced by USA Basketball on Tuesday, June 10.
Following the selection of the squad, the U.S. team will train in Colorado Springs, june 11-16, before traveling to Slovakia to compete in the International Tournament of Junior National Teams in Bratislava, Slovakia, Jun3 20-24. The squad will then train at the Disney Institute in Orlando, Fla. from June 25-30, before leaving for Natal, Brazil for teh 1997 FIBA Junior World Championships July 5-13. Participation in the Junior World Championships is limited to women who are 19-years-old or younger.
Dickerson joins 11 players from last year's silver medal winning USA Women's Junior World Championships Qualifying Team in the Trials. The Elk City, Okla. native played in 29 games for the Lady Raiders as a freshman last season and started two contests. Dickerson was second on the team in rebounding, averaging 5.4 rebounds per game. She was fourth in scoring, averaging 6.4 points per game. She led the team in shooting percentage, connecting on 59.3 percent of her shots from the field.
