Lady Raiders vs. Kansas State

January 9, 2012

Texas Tech Head Coach Kristy Curry

On Texas Tech’s hard-nosed defense

“I think there is one thing you can always control and that’s to defend a rebound that’s just the size of your heart and I want our team to be an extension everyday of who we are and how hard we work on the defensive end and I feel like that ‘s something we try and take a lot of pride in defending and we just have to find ways to score and tonight we were fortunate to get a couple of more buckets than Kansas State.”

On if it was nice to productivity from the posts this game

“We worked and reworked and got a couple of extra finishes and they continued to just try and go up strong and try and finish inside, when you can get the ball inside to your posts good things are going to happen outside and so we want to have and inside outside approach and I felt like we did a good job of that tonight.”

On getting her 300th win

“You always remember the losses than the wins, but it’s not about me I’m just a small part, I’ve had amazing people around me from my coaches to my player to the support staff to my secretaries just every single person that’s been a part of my life, I’ve just been blessed with so many opportunities and just tried to make the most of it and I’m just happy we got a win tonight, that’s the most important thing.”

Texas Tech Player Quotes

Junior Jackie Patterson

On if she was feeling a little bit of rhythm tonight

“Yeah just a little bit, I felt good about all my shots that I took tonight.”

On if she is going for making buckets anyway or more off the glass

“Just buckets anyway, I’m not really about using the glass but when I can I will.”

Junior Kelsi Baker

On how it feels to get Coach Curry her 300th win

“It’s a great feeling, this whole team is a family including Coach Curry and the coaching staff and the people we surround ourselves with so anytime anybody makes an accomplishment like that it’s a great feeling for the team as well as Casey’s 1000 points and her 300th win it’s just a great feeling for the whole organization and program.”

On guarding the mismatches throughout the game

“It was a team effort, we came out with a game plan of switching one through five so basically everybody is guarding everybody so the posts aren’t guarding just the posts, posts were guarding perimeter and we knew if we got beat that someone would have our help and we would help them recover, that was one thing we new coming into the game that someone would have our back the whole time.”

Kansas State Head Coach Deb Patterson

Opening Statement

“This was obviously a game in which the first 20 minutes was dominated by Tech and on the defensive end of the floor they had us stymied early in the game and still I felt coming out of the locker room we had the potential to be a significantly better basketball team offensively and for a periods of time we were and we put some things together but we were still playing sporadic but at the same time Tech played very consistent and played very hard-nosed defense and were very committed offensively to getting the ball inside and exploiting mismatches and they certainly did a great job of that as the game wore on particularly late in the second half. Obviously Kelsi Baker and Jackie Patterson were critical elements down the stretch with big catches and mismatches once we had three players with four fouls, so it got a little tougher to defend and to be as aggressive as might of hoped, credit Texas Tech I think they are a basketball team that is going to make a lot of noise in the league and hopefully we can bounce back from this and go home against West Virginia and be a little bit better.”

Kansas State Player Quotes

Senior Brittany Chambers

On how frustrating it was to keep missing shots

“It was frustrating, we missed way too many open shots and especially on in and outs and we were missing some easy shots that we should be putting in but that it happens on the road sometimes things don’t go the way you want them to and you have to find a way to score in different ways and the first half we didn’t really doing that and I felt like if we would have played the first half like the second half it would have been a lot better but credit goes to Tech they played really well in the first half.”
